I believe that getting "owned" in RA might have more to do with skill selection/use, and lack of knowledge of builds being used against you, than not having upgraded weapons.

All PvP basic weapons have max stats, they are just missing upgrades.

Equipment isn't that important. Sure, 30 extra health or something is nice but it's hardly game breaking.
Can you tell us your build? If you've got a good build you'll get faction quickly. Quick enough to unlock the equipment usually. 'good' builds include ZB monk, BL monk, shock warrior, Dslash warrior, almost any ranger with savage+distract (be careful: requires skill), A/W with shadow prison (careful: requires no skill at all)
Bad builds include w/mo's with mending, healing breeze, healing hands, glads defense, riposte, dolyak signet (don't run that. ever.) or a combination of the aforementioned, pure healer monks, minion masters, e/d's with armor of earth, stoneflesh aura, stone daggers and mystic regen, etc. etc. You can PM me if you wish some further explaination on any of the good builds or you can try to search something in the Gladiators Arena.
I hope this was of some help.

Actually the most help I got was how to bring up the equipment. After i pimped my guy out I took him back to RA and won 5 times in a row. My next question is how do I get to this Gladiators Arena, and then eventually the hall of heroes?

get better and win a certain number in a row (i think 5 or 10). just work on learning the builds to be competitive in RA.

There is no such thing as Gladiator's arena, I think it was planned for release and therefore included in picture of the Battle Isles in the manual, but it's not actually in the game.

Winning 5 consecutive in RA will unlock Team Arenas. Winning 5 games (don't have to be consecutive) games in TA will unlock Hero's Ascent.

The Hall of Heroes is the final map in Hero's Ascent, it's not a separate arena.

I'd suggest playing only in RA for the time being, then maybe some in TA. Don't try playing in HA.

Have a look a bit further down the forum - there's a PvP section called Gladiator's Arena. All the PvP stuff is in there

-Start RA
-Win 5 consecutive matches in RA ---> Unlock Team Arenas
-Play TA
-Win 5 in TA to unlock Heroes Ascent (I think people can map you there too from TA, not sure)
-Play HA

OR

-Join a guild, play HA and GvG.
